Mark Batenic, IGA chairman, president and chief executive officer of Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA), is responsible for the domestic and global operations of IGA, which includes over 5,000 IGA stores in more than 30 countries around the world. During his more than 10-year tenure with IGA, Batenic and the IGA executive team have moved aggressively to advance the IGA brand, redefining it as the preferred choice of independent grocers and regional chains in the United States and around the globe.
Prior to joining IGA, Batenic was the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Clemens Markets, Kulpsville, Pennsylvania. He began his career in the food industry in 1973 with Fleming Company as a manager of various departments until he was promoted to a series of larger divisional president positions and then several senior vice presidencies. At the end of his tenure with Fleming, he was senior vice president of sales and marketing nationwide.
Currently Batenic serves on the boards of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), National Grocers Association (NGA), Food for All, and The Consumer Goods Forum.
Mark Batenic graduated from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, in 1973 with a B.A. He later continued his education at Cornell University’s Food Industry Executive School and at the Strategic Marketing Planning Program of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Mark Batenic and his wife reside in Southern Shores, North Carolina and have four grown children.
