Mark Wijne is advocacy officer ‘Children’s Rights and Business’ at UNICEF Netherlands. In his role, Mark is responsible to work with public and private sector stakeholders in the food & beverage value chain to improve positive health outcomes for children and minimize any possible negative impacts. Mark joined UNICEF in 2004 and since worked in different positions in the organization supporting the global programming work in health, nutrition and emergencies. Since 2009 he is responsible for advocacy towards child friendly and child rights respecting policies and practices in Dutch foreign policy including the realm of international corporate social responsibility. Mark holds a MSc in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University. He started his career working for 2 years in emergency aid programs in Somalia and Tanzania, providing medical support and setting up nutrition rehabilitation centers. He continued living and working in Africa another 9 years with the FAO coordinating nutrtition and food security programmes in Mali, Ethiopia and Ghana aimed at structural improvements in local capacity and policy development.
